O

The O was created to embody a new vision in our products and to represent the O Line.

I imagined the O Line to be the other side of my personality. When the ㅁ Line is bold, agressive, the O Line is round, soft and minimalist.

All the watch experience was thought to reduce and remove perceived complexity. Of course this watch was not simple to design and manufacture. But when you look at it everything seems fluid, effortless.

Product

The O was imagined to be as compact as possible, with a 38mm diameter and 9mm thick titanium case.

For this monochrome blanc limited edition, we used for the first time a new technique to machine the case. It’s 3D printed from titanium pounder. A powerful laser beam melt and fuse shapes from the titanium pounder.

I wanted to show a raw material, close to its origin.

It’s revolutionary but of course the accuracy of this process is not matching our standard, so I have to re-machine by hand every functional shape.

For the parts on the dial side, I decided to machine it in aluminium because of the way it shines and because I needed an a-magnetic and light metal.

The dial complication is mysterious. It’s composed by two main parts made in aluminium. The goal was to display time in a minimalist, elegant way.

I use micro magnets, without direct mechanical contact, to drive the discs. It was very difficult to isolate the magnetic field but it allows us to create fantastic depth and astonishing shapes.

Design

I wanted to play with different kind of grey/white metal, so we used titanium, aluminium and steel. This watch is like a monochrome painting.

I use volume and shape to play with light in order to make the watch speaks and to display the time.

My inspiration was once again architecture but this time modernist, almost brutalist for the case.

I learned how lights and shadows can underline shapes and structures.

But when the light goes down, I decided to enlight the dial in quiet and nonaggressive way. I use the reflection of super-luminova on the dial to create an halo of light.

To power this watch I choose to go with an existing automatic Swiss made movement.
