Time Capsule

The time capsule means two things for me.

First it represents something solid that can travel through the time.

Secondly it reminds me when I was a little boy and took a metallic box to make a capsule. I put an object or a drawing in it. It evokes me sweet moments or important memories, I could keep it safe inside this box.

This is the starting point for this timepiece, at a half-hidden location on a silver part set on a bridge the owner can engrave something that reminds him a memory. It can be an image, a drawing, a text or a date. This souvenir will remain safe and only visible by someone who knows it’s there. So you’ll be able to keep it with you inside your time capsule.

I wanted to built a watch that can allow me to carry a memory safe inside it and of course I wasn’t thinking about created a simple movement for this special watch, so I designed my own time machine. It plays with time by displaying it by three different way : a jumping hour cylinder, a retrograde level to show the minutes and a rotative propeller for the seconds.

This time machine was exclusively created, designed and manufactured to be placed inside the capsule.

It’s a manual winding movement with 48h power reserve with a balance wheel that beats at 18000 alt/h 2.5Hertz.

As you know we do things our way and this watch carry some unique features :

A brand new winding/setting system ultra compact with the crown placed on the front of the watch for a better comfort on your wrist.
The bridges and the main plate are sensibly opened to show the different mechanical parts but to guarantee the rigidity of movement, they are made in steel.

To make the time machine even stronger, the movement is tied to the case with a special shock absorber technology. 6 rings placed on each fixation point absorb the energy from an exterior shock. These rings have a shore hardness of 96A, in order to be soft enough to absorb but strong enough to keep to movement in place.
An other thing, our one curve strap attach allows you to perfectly adjust the strap at the size of your wrist. The time capsule is equipped with a custom made ultra smooth toro leather strap and the new one curve v2 in titanium grade5, small and easy to use.
In order to offer the best protection possible, the titanium bezel is designed to surround the saphir glass.

The comfort is once again primordial in our watch, that’s why the back of the titanium case is curved and the case dimensions of 43.5x43,5 mm and 14mm thick, keep it easy to wear.

Some personalization are possible:

The color and the length of the strap

The color of the minute and second indicator

And of course the memory that you want to place inside the capsule

One more thing, a gong-spring.

What do we want from a gong in a modern watch?

We don’t want the gong to make “gling-gling” when we move the watch. It has to be short and strongly attached.

Unfortunately a rigid steel gong makes a super hight, agressive, unpleasant sound, even with different sorts of “link” with the main plate.

I had to work on the material of the gong, after some research and try I found the best material, the bronze.

Now I just have to make it ring even encapsulated in our titanium case.

The solution was found in a complex part, made in brass and shaped to drive vibrations from the gong through the main plate and more importantly to the case back.

Yes we are using the titanium case back as an acoustic cavity.

Now the Time Capsule is gently ringing every hour.
